Hello vicug listers:

I am new to this list and just wanted to inform interested listers of my
background. Diabetes mellitus Type 1 39 years. Blindness due to
diabetic retinopathy in 1979. First trainee to receive hands-on training
with VersaBraille at Arkansas Enterprises for the Blind (AEB) in 1981,
before they were introduced to blind Federal employees.

I worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 5 years in Indianapolis,
using those above-mentioned skills on the job, eventually accessing
taxpayer accounts and disseminating on-screen information via a talking
terminal attachment. I am sure most of you are saying that was certainly
a long time ago, and it was! Back when 9600 baud was fast!

More recently, I have offered tutorial instruction to blind and visually
impaired clients in the areas of Windows Operating Systems, and DOS-based
systems with word processing applications, in conjunction with screen
readers. Have not had any such clients in well over a year.

I am still using an old 486 with soft Vert and WordPerfect v5.1 to do
most of my official correspondence with...I still know how to use every
feature which it offers.

Not so on my newer (only 2+ years old) Pentium 166, running Windows 95,
with a 33.6 Genius but, for as little as I know about the Internet or
surfing the Web, it accomplishes the tasks which I know how to perform.
I use JFW3.0 and JUNO as my ISP. I am certainly one who is fearful to
use the Web to make my life easier. Please help me in that respect. I
am certainly looking forward to the good information which I am certain
this list will provide me with. Thanks to all of you.

Always out of sight!
Randy
