"Assessing Students' Needs for Assistive Technology"
A manual of resources for school district teams as they consider the
need for assistive technology for each child with a disability. It
includes a focus on using a team decision making process to make
appropriate assistive technology decisions. The manual contains
Educational TECH Points, background on the laws related to assistive
technology, overviews of assistive technology to assist with reading,
writing, spoken communication, and many other tasks. Specific forms
included are the WATI Student Information Guide, Observation Guide,
Planning Guide, and AT Checklist.
Manual available for $35 in Wisconsin or $50 outside of Wisconsin + $5
shipping
and handling each.
"Everyone's Classroom"
This ten-minute video shows an environment where assistive
technology is a natural extension of learning for all students. Low
technology adaptations, including non-slip surfaces, a slant-topped
table, and mounted railings, were incorporated into an early childhood
classroom. Emphasis is placed on language and literacy development
through the use of sign language, adapted books, and augmentative
communication devices, materials, and strategies.
Video available for $25 in Wisconsin or $40 outside of Wisconsin + $3
shipping
and handling each.
"D.E.S.K. (Designing Environments for Successful Kids)"
A manual packed full of examples of simple, inexpensive, easy to use
items and devices that can help children with disabilities experience
greater success. It starts with items for the home environment, the
place where children first begin to learn, then moves to early
childhood environments, primary grades and upper elementary and
secondary schools. In considering each environment, the manual
focuses on the tasks that children are typically attempting to do in
those environments. Technically, all of these items are assistive
technology, but the manual is written in a non-technical, easy to
under-stand format that educators can use to introduce the concept of
assistive technology to others who may not
be aware of it.
Manual available for $21 in Wisconsin or $30 outside of Wisconsin +
$5 shipping
and handling each.
"Preparing & Providing a Make-It & Take-It D.E.S.K. Workshop"
This manual is designed to help the educator who wants to train
others to create and use DESK materials. It contains all you need to
plan and carry out a training workshop including the focus form,
shopping list, and directions for a variety of items. The focus is
primarily on creating items that support young children as they
develop language and literacy skills.
