Not necessarily, Rachel. We are talking about the possibility that there is
a built-in avoidance of mutagens during especially the first trimester.
Foods like saltines, potatoes, etc. may be unlikely to harbor mutagenic
bacteria, who knows? Perhaps in the evolutionary long run, meat, fish, fowl
eggs etc. are much more likely to have mutagens, parasites, etc. in them.

Perhaps being sick and unable to eat much is the point. Perhaps the point is
to be on guard, the same evolutionary reason we feel pain, so that recurring
discomfort during early pregnancy (especially) exerts a powerful effect even
in the form of heightened awareness.
