Monday, 10/16: At least 2 Palestinians killed. US President Bill Clinton,
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Israeli
Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat,
European Union International Policy Chief Javier Solana and Jordan's King
Abdullah meet in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Israel announces that Barak is
close to a deal with Likud Party leader Ariel Sharon to form a "national
unity government."
Sunday, 10/15: Hizbollah abducts an Israeli army colonel.
Saturday, 10/14: US President Bill Clinton announces summit in Egypt.
Friday, 10/13: At least 2 Palestinians killed.
Thursday, 10/12: 2 Israeli soldiers are killed in Ramallah. Israeli
helicopters rocket Ramallah and Gaza.
Wednesday, 10/11: At least 2 Palestinians killed.
Tuesday, 10/10: At least 1 Palestinian, a nine-year-old boy, killed.
Monday, 10/09: At least 3 Palestinians killed. Yom Kippur. Barak
indefinitely extends ultimatum. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan arrives to
attempt to negotiate and end to the violence.
Sunday, 10/08: A 200-year-old mosque is destroyed in Tiberias. At least 1
Palestinian killed.
Saturday, 10/07: At least 4 Palestinians killed. Joseph's Tomb in Nablus
destroyed. Hizbollah abducts 3 Israeli soldiers near South Lebanon. Barak
issues a 48-hour ultimatum to Arafat. UN Security Council passes a
resolution condemning Israel's use of "excessive force." US abstains from
resolution.
Friday, 10/06: At least 11 Palestinians killed. West Bank and Gaza Strip
sealed by Israeli army.
Thursday, 10/05: At least 3 Palestinians killed.
Wednesday, 10/04: At least 10 Palestinians killed. Israeli Prime Minister
Barak and Palestinian Authority President Arafat meet with French President
Jacques Chirac and US Secretary of State Madeline Albright in Paris. Both
sides agree to order forces away from flashpoints. An agreement goes
unsigned as Israel refuses to accept an international inquiry into recent
events.
Tuesday, 10/03: At least 7 Palestinians killed.
Monday, 10/02: At least 16 Palestinians killed. 1 Israeli killed.
Sunday, 10/01: At least 12 Palestinians killed. A cease-fire lasts only a
short period. Palestinian general security service reports Israeli use of
anti-tank rockets near Netzarim. In Nablus, Israeli helicopters fire on
demonstrators. Israeli border policeman killed. Israeli Arab protests are
fired on.
Saturday, 09/30: At least 14 Palestinians killed. Among them is 12 year
old Muhhamed Al-Durah, whose final moments are caught on film by a French
camera crew.
Friday, 09/29: At least 6 Palestinians killed. 1 Israeli soldier killed. US
Department of State criticizes Sharon's visit.
Thursday, 09/28: Party head Ariel Sharon and six other Likud leaders tour
the Al-Aqsa Compound. Visit, an apparent show of power in face of a
possible threat from Netanyahu, sparks clashes that result in numerous
injuries. Roadside bomb explodes near Israeli military convoy in Gaza
strip, no reported injuries.
Wednesday, 09/27: Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, of the
Likud Party, is cleared of corruption charges opening the way for a
possible political comeback.
(AMJ note: The daily casualties do not include those who later passed away
as a result of injuries inflicted on them by the Israelis.)
Facts:
"A total of 107 people have been killed in fierce clashes, all but seven of
them Arabs."

Inside Israel's 1948 borders live ammunition has been used to suppress
Israeli Arab demonstrations. No equivalent use of force has been found in
the suppression of violent Israeli demonstrations, even when Arabs were
being injured.
