he is scared out of his mind. But, he can't change his act or he will
appear weak. I feel far less compassion for him than I would for any real
person going through the same situation. He caused that lack of feeling.

I want to be clear that the ambivalence comes from witnessing the harm he
has done by allowing people to feel it is okay to be hateful and his
insistence that he is always right. If he is always right then he should
be sure to be right now.

Jay,

I think part of acting like you are right is the nature of talk radio,
which is better placed in the category of entertainment rather than news
and information. to draw the extremely large audiences needed for
commercial radio, a strong personality with definite and principled views
is often brought on because that is what attracts listeners. this is
true of Rush on the political right or someone on the left such as tom
Leykis at KLSX in Los Angeles.

the hate you speak of is the nastiness, sourness, and acrid nature of
things cloaked in entertainment. Brandishing terms like Feminazi does
not suggest tolerance and acceptance of difference. he will not have all
the answers on this one. Figuring out how to deal with the Taliban may
seem a lot easier than figuring out your new disability.

the ironic part of all of this is that many of the alternative
techniques, such as real time captioning, and assistive aids he is now
using were able to be developed and deployed throughout our society as a
result of the federal government funding research, funding programs, and
mandating services and technology.

Kelly
