Chocolate is derived from the fruit of the cacao tree native to South
America, Mexico, and Central America. The cacao pod(fruit) holds 20 to 50
seeds ( also known as beans).
According to my reference book the cacao, Theobroma cacao, is classified in
the family Sterculiaceae( cola).
