Heidi,

One of these days, you'll discover (assuming you want to, and if you don't
want to, that's OK, too) that the darling little buggers (as opposed to
disgusting little bugs) don't eat the crust.  They only want the nice soft
white bread in the middle.  And you get to throw away the crust.
