Interesting situation because I'm also having a similar experience except
when scandisk asked me if I wanted to fix it - I said no and have retained
my original disk size (I was suspicious because of other experiences with
scandisk 'fixing' things).

I originally partitioned and formatted my hard drive using Diskwizard (for
Seagate drives I think). Other interesting effects is that when I attempt
to use Scandisk in Windows (as opposed to DOS) it reports that the hard
drive is improperly formatted or is locked by a hard disk utility. Norton
Disk Doctor reports no errors and I don't notice any other adverse effects
(so far) that I can attribute to this situation.

I suspect the original disk setup or partitioning tools used on your drive
may be the cause of problem (they also may be the answer if you want to get
your full disk capacity back). Just my thoughts - anybody else want to try?

Subject: Hard Drive Partitioning?

I recently reinstalled windows 98. As it was setting itself up, during the
scandisk process, it reported that the free space on my hard drive was
showing a wrong value and asked if i wanted to fix it. I pushed the fix it
button and now my 40 GB hard drive is only being reported as a 20 GB. I was
wondering if anyone knows what i can do to get my computer to read it as 40
GB.
Thank You
Bryan
