Re: Upgrade etc for OC BH6

Good folks,

In 2/99 I built a little deskside system for home use
around an Abit BH6 board and a Celeron 300A cpu. It has
been running great at 450 mhz/2.3 v. core since then.

Now it is getting a bit "Long in the Tooth".

Two things to consider ...

1.) Cpu-level upgrade. It _appears_ that it might be
practical to replace the 300A with a .18 micron
Celeron FC-PGA on a slocket and, with sufficient
cooling, run it with 100 mhz FSB. So a Celeron 566
would be running at about 850 mhz.

I would expect to have to flash the bios a time or
2 to get the range of core voltage that I would
need (not even sure what it would be).

How much risk is involved with such a planned upgrade?
Costs? Benefits? Ways in which I could shoot my po'
    self in the foot? <grin>

If advisable, which slocket (Imiss, Abit, Evercool)?
    What cpu-cooling unit?

And has anyone seen a step-by-step description of
the nuts 'n bolts of such a BH6 cpu upgrade on the
    web or <wherever>??

2.) On the BH6 I've been running 1 stick of Mushkin 64 mb
PC100 SDRAM with Samsung GH cas2 chips. The cas
latency time is set to 2 in the bios. Its long
overdue for a second 64 mb board. Should I try to
get another "like the other" (which ain't cheap)?
    Any cas2? Any PC100?

Any/all info/recommendations would be much appreciated.

  Zalut,
  David
