Hey bud,
Easy. Format your hard drive that has the operating system on it (Win98).
If you have a system disk for the Win 98 Insert it in the floppy drive and
start your computer. At the A: prompt type format x: "X" being your root
directory or the drive that your operation system is in. After this is done
your hard drive will be clean, but if you done an upgrade and have important
files, back them up before. This will be another option when your uninstall
program is not working. You may want to try to load himem.sys located in
your Win 98 startup disk. After you reboot see how it reacts. Otherwise
use the format command. run setup at the prompt your cd is at and install
win98 from scratch.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Uninstalling Win98 using MS-DOS

> Hey everyone.....I hope someone can help me...........My Windows98 will
not boot up due to an accidental deleting of my HIMEM.SYS. My os was
installed by the guy who built my computer and he is in......I shall say,
"hot water". So he isn't able to help me with this one. I need to know how
to uninstall the Windows98 that is already on my computer (this was his
win98 that he installed) so that I can reinstall another Windows98. As I
said, I accidently deleted my HIMEM.SYS and my machine will only go so far
before stopping. So, I guess this is where the DOS part comes in. I've got a
Win98 start up disk that I barrowed from a friend with the hopes of
reinstalling the missing himem.sys, but this has done no good. I've boughten
my own Win98 CD-ROM and now cant figure out how to install it as when I put
the cd in the tray, it doesn't do anything. So, I figure that I'll need to
uninstall and do a clean install. Am I on the right track? Any info will be
GREATLY appreciated! Thanks millions!
