I acquired an old Packard Bell Multimedia 851 with a Cyrix MII socket 7
processor, 6.1 GB HDD, 32 MB RAM, and onboard video and audio. When I got
it, it would start fine but would hard freeze as soon as windows finished
loading. The factory supplied restore software was a no-go, and the
Master-CD didn't come with it. Here's the problems.
#1. After reformatting the HDD and installing Win98 the modem driver did
not load. This is not a tremendous problem, since I have a spare USR I can
install. However, the USR modem is "known-good" part I use working on the
PC's of others. Still, no biggie if I have to.
#2. The video res. is stuck on 16 colors and 640X480. The onboard video is
supposed to max at 256 800X600 (I think???).
The video was working fine before I reformatted and re-installed Win98. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
