I just installed a new and different motherboard and had the exact same
problem.  You need to boot into safe mode, go into the device manager and
remove everything, not just the duplicates.  Also while in safe mode remove
your printer and uninstall its software.  When you shut down you should
unplug your printer from the its port on the computer.  When Windows boots
up it will install all this stuff once.  When it is done, restart in safe
mode and check device manager to make sure you only have one copy of
everything.  If so, you can reboot into Windows and follow instructions to
reinstall your printer.  I have Win 98 as an OS, so I can't say why you had
this happen to you, but I don't think the solution is any different.  You
just cannot win by removing only the duplicates in device manager while in
safe mode.  If it does this again you may have some corrupt files in your OS
and may need to fdisk, reformat and reinstall Win Me.  Before you do that,
run the system file checker (SFC) to find out if it identifies any missing
or corrupt files that you can reinstall from the Win Me disk.


My system is a Sony PCV 210 running ME. On boot-up yesterday new hardware
was found. The problem was ( is) it's duplicating the following items I
already have.

Std floppy drive controller
Std 101/102 key or MS keyboard
PS/2 compatible mouse port

System devices;
        EISA direct memory access controller
        Motherboard resources
        Numeric data processor
        PCI bus
        Programmable interrupt controller
        System CMOS/real time clock
        System speaker
        System timer
It also takes the printer off line

I deleted the dupes in device manager, but on re-boot the problem is
repeated.
I can't find anything relating to this problem in any of my help files.
At this point I don't know if this is a hardware or software problem and
can't think of anything I have done to cause it.
I have made no hardware or software changes.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem or a possible cause??
