And, a quote from Dr Sears on the "ratios" and the complexity of calculating a
Zone meal:
" Please don't become obsessive about the ratio of protein-to-carbohydrate
because of biochemical individuality. The ratios of protein-to-carbohydrate that
will get into the Zone ranges from 0.5 to 1.0. Below 0.5, you have high
carbohydrate diet, and above 1.0 you will have a high-protein diet. The number
of 0.75 is simply the midpoint between these two ratios. If you follow the
eyeball method of balancing your plate with 1/3 of the plate area occupied by
low fat protein that is no bigger nor thicker than the palm of your hand, and
the rest of plate filled until it is overflowing with vegetables and fruits,
with dash (that's a small amount) of monounsaturated fat, you will have a Zone
