You can call the school system, you can also look into being a teaching
assistant.  YMCA's often have children's programs and so do therapeutic
riding programs.  If you want to volunteer to get your foot in the door
somewhere you can also call up you local United Way volunteer center, look
it up in the phone book.
Remember to keep a running curriculum vitae listing all, yes all your
volunteer experiences, community affiliations, references, etc.  Keep your
resume short with highlights.  You would be amazed at how even volunteer
work can get you a job.
