LOCATION FOR MONDAY'S SPECIAL CU MEETING ON THE TOWN AND CIVIL RIGHTS
ISSUES:
VILLAGER MALL, FRONT CONFERENCE ROOM
2300 S. Park St.
A location has been confirmed for this Monday's special Communities
United meeting, where we will discuss possible Communities United
responses to civil rights concerns around the future of the Town of
Madison. The eeting will be at noon on Monday, August 5th in the front
conference room of the Villager Mall, 2300 S. Park Street.
The Villager Mall is on the west side of Park Street, about two blocks
north
of the Beltline. The conference room is in the center of the mall.
You can
enter at the door next to the Mr. Money Pawn Shop and the Early
Childhood Learning Center (an interesting combination if there ever was
one).
Among the subjects being discussed are an anti-annexation petition
currently being distributed in the town. The main purpose of the
meeting, however, is to be a catalyst for creating an environment where
everyone affected by the proposed changes can be heard, including those
who have traditionally been isolated or disenfranchised from
participation in local government decisions. We believe that, if at all
possible, any changes in the status of the current town should result in
a greater sense of community on the south side, and the people in its
affected neighborhoods must have a voice.
One possible outcome might be the co-sponsorship by Communities United
of a series of public forums around the implications of annexation of
the town by either the City of Madison or the City of Fitchburg.
Communities United member John Quinlan is the convenor for this
Monday's meeting. If you have questions, you can contact him at
251-2452, or write to him at [log in to unmask]
