Susan: This is most peculiar. Can you see if your scanner works on another
MEWIN98 computer using a USB connection. I'm just wondering if the cable or
connection is faulty.

It's important to have the scanner powered up and on line before you boot up
your computer. Also to have the minimal progs running in the background when
you install the software. Progs like your antivirus can sometimes corrupt
the software as it is being installed.

Later today I'll check my copy of the HP disk and see if there are any
clues.
