Since I follow their list once in a while, and the participants are
predominantly Crohn's and colitis sufferers, I'm going to take a guess
that it's because of the studies done on carrageenan. Irish Moss (or
"carrageenan", also its gelatinous derivitive used as an emulsifier in
processed foods), is a red algae seaweed. It has been shown to cause
inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in laboratory rats. I don't know if
any studies have been done on humans though. I also don't know why
they'd say to avoid seaweeds in general on a paleo diet apart from the
IBD aspect, but I can ask them if there's any other reason and get back
to you on that.
