I was disappointed to find that Nestles Butterscotch was not gluten-free.
I contacted Hersey's today and talked to someone named Ruth in consumer
service - she says that their Butterscotch chips are NOT on their
gluten-containing list so therefore are considered safe. She also
checked the ingredient list and did not feel that there were any
offending ingredients and the recipe has not been changed so I guess it's
worth a try!
I also contacted Domino Sugar to ask about the carmel color in their
brown sugars. Their customer rep. - Mary Garbarini - claims that the
color is cane caremel color. So I assume this means from sugar cane and
not barely malt - so it should also be OK.
