Paul,

One thing that would help is the brand of BIOS you are running.  This way we
can better interpret the beep codes (also called post codes sometimes).

The problem "could" be video memory, system memory, cache problems, etc.
One thing you might check is make sure the video card is FIRMLY seated.
Even with PCI video cards I have had problems just like this in the past.
The last couple of pins were just making incidental contact, and sometimes
the machine would boot, sometimes it wouldn't.

When you reply, it would help if you supply more details about your system.
Motherboard, CPU, video card, hard drive, memory, etc.
