This sounds dumb. But I have an older ASUS board and also built this PC
about a year and a half ago. (mmm.. time to upgrade me thinks :-)). I also
struggled with this build. I had everything correct according to the
manuals. My setup at the time was
6.4Gb hdd, 4.3Gb hdd, CD-ROM, DVD. All IDE devices.
I eventually decided to try one ribbon cable the wrong way around on the
motherboard and on the hard drive. Guess what. It worked. This after
sweating about 2/3 weeks. Go figure.......
