My daughter bought a used HP Pavillion 6460. We are looking to upgrade
the processor.
It has the following:
Celeron 400
440ZX/66 chipset
96MB SDRAM
9.6 gig hard drive
Rockwell combo modem/sound
I think the video is onboard. It has 1 ISA, 3 PCI and 1 AGP slot open.
Looking at HP's web site forum, it looks like the processor can be
upgraded to maybe a PIII 550 but one person there said he had
successfully upgraded his to a PIII 850. They don't supply much info on
the motherboard other than to say it is manufactured by Asus.
A quote from their 6460 forum:
The fastest processor tested in the 6460 is the Pentium II 550 MHz and
any other processors functionality is not guaranteed. The maximum
processor for the 6460 would be the Pentium III 600MHz Katmai. This
motherboard can use either Celeron or Pentium processors. The fastest
Celeron is the 433MHz. The front bus speed can be changed on the
motherboard to 100MHz. These processors will have to be a non-coppermine
processor for the motherboard does not support Intel coppermine
processors. For information on the motherboard and jumpers, see this
link:
But the link they give is broken.
Has anyone else dealt with one of these and would you be willing to share
the onfo?
Thanks,
Bob Herring
