Hi.
Thanks for your interest. I had surgery. I finished very strong chemo a
year ago April (Taxotere and Adriamycin), and 35 doses of radiation a year
ago July. I had (have?) invasive ductal carcinoma (most commonly occurring),
stage IIb, 5 positive lymph nodes. The cancer cells were moderately
abnormal. Currently I'm taking Tamoxifen---to block estrogen, which is
thought to provide a hospitable environment for breast cancer. As of now, I
have no signs of disease, and am really quite healthy---going to the gym,
etc.
I began eating organically when I was diagnosed, lots of fruit and veggies,
and fish, but little fat and little meat. Now I am eating lots of meat, etc,
non starchy veggies, and an abysmally small amount of fruit---sort of non
strict Adkins. I have no idea whether this diet change will have any effect
on cancer recurrence.
I know many who develop advanced cancer say they feel better when they don't
eat meat. And I know that the suspected correlation between dietary fat
and breast cancer has been shown to be false. Dairy products have been shown
not to be implicated either (along with antiperspiranta, wearing a bra,
etc----all red herrings).
Some information: 80% of breast cancer is not of the familial type----and
20% is. Before diagnosis I thought it was the other way around. 188,888
women (and some men) are diagnosed each year in the USA, and 44,000 die of
this disease each year. About 1/3 of those treated surgically do not need
other treatment, and about 1/3 will not be helped by other treatment, and
1/3 will have their lives prolonged by treatment. The kicker is that as of
now there is know way to know which group you are in.
