Mr. Small, Sanusi and all my christian brethren, the subject of this piece
is the caption of a cartoon that regularly appears in the Daily observer
reflecting what most of us here are thinking. IT WAS NOT, IN ANY WAY, MEANT
TO BE BLASPHEMOUS AND IF ANY BODY TAKES ANY OFFENCE FROM IT OR SEES IT AS
BEING BLASPHEMOUS, I OFFER MY SINCEREST APPOLOGY AND ASK FOR YOUR
FORGIVENESS AND THAT OF THE LORD.
Having said that let me try to answer some of the questions Sanusi raised.
Mr. Sanusi, I have stated here on this forum over and over again that my
support of the president and his government DOES NOT IN ANY WAY MEAN THAT I
CONDONE OR SUPPORT EVERTHING THIS GOVERNMENT DOES. I am just exercising my
God given right to think independently and to use my own judgement as I move
along through this world. Yahya's religious believe like that of mine and
anybody else for that matter has absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH MY PRESENT
POSITION with regards to this regime of ours.
Even though I desire some change in the way this government governs us, I
WILL JUST NOT GO FOR CHANGE FOR THE SAKE OF CHANGE ALONE OR BECAUSE I HATE
YAHYA JAMMEH. In addition to the respect for human rights, I also consider
it the fundamental duty of any government to create us jobs as well as
create an enabling environment to fulfill our desires. The opposition has so
far NOT CONVINCED ME THAT THEY ARE WORTH THAT SIMPLE EFFORT ON MY PART TO
WASTE MY TIME AND VOTE FOR THEM. Period. As I am writing this, there is just
not enough reason or inspiration for me to change allegiance. And come to
think of it, how many of you really do have much faith in our opposition
parties of today? Many of you are ONLY UNITED BY WHAT YOU HATE ABOUT YAHYA
AND HIS COHORTS AND NOT BECAUSE YOU ARE INSPIRED BY ANY OF THE OPPOSITION
PARTIES. Many will deny this but that's the truth! The only party that has
inspired more than any other Gambian political party, past and present, is
the PDOIS. But I SHALL NEVER VOTE FOR THEM IN A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. The
reason is very simple; I SIMPLY HATE THEIR SOCIALIST IDEOLOGIES. Just
imagine their presidential candidate out of principle, which I respect,
deciding, of his own volition, that D7,000.00 was too much for him to live
on and decides to put what he considers excess need in a trust fund for the
common good. That's okay by him. But I just don't share that view. Suppose I
vote for him and he tries to bring in that same nonsensical ideology whereby
he wants every body to make a similar sacrifice for the common good. I say A
BIG NO TO THAT. I deserve to live my my life the way I want it, in peace and
tranquility. Call it selfish or what ever you want but that is my believe.
As for Hamat Bah's party, they have not shown me any good reason why I
should vote for them. As I am writing this I still don't know who comprises
the executive committee of that party.
Similarly, the UDP have simply not explained anything that they want to do
for the country. They just give the impresiion of being a group of very
angry people whose only motivation is to get rid of Yahya and his cohorts.
And for that, there is every indication that they will not stop at anything
to achieve that goal. This intolerant government and its die heart party
supporters are also equally prepared to stop them. And guess what, more
bloodshed and more detentions. The politics of let's free the Janjanburey
and Mile 2 inmates and replace them with another set of prisoners is just
not the right recipe for the development of this country. They have to get
their act together and convince people that they are an honest lot who only
want power to do more to bring sanity, maintain the peace of this country as
well as develop it to the level we can only dream about. Failing that they
might as well disban.
Have a good day and bye 4Now, KB Jobe.
