The University of Michigan is pleased to announce the creation of the
Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center---Ergonomic Solutions for
Employment. The Michigan RERC is a multidisciplinary center committed to
developing ergonomic solutions to accommodate disabled workers. Faculty
and staff are engineers and physicians from the Departments of Industrial
and Operations Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation, Environmental and Industrial Health.
The goal of the University of Michigan RERC is to develop a Model System
for applying ergonomic technologies to accommodate disabled and elderly
workers. Specific activities include developing procedures for:
1. assessing capacity
2. analyzing work requirements
3. selecting ergonomic solutions
4. integrate findings from Intervention and Biomechanics Projects into
Model System
5. implementing a database to evaluate the system and make it available
to others.
