Or proper grammar.
Or correct salutations, and punctuation, much less a spell checker.
I'm fairly certain that all of those things "count".
These issues are irrelevant, however, because most members of this
listserv group are far, far, too busy with important projects and professional
conversations, etc., to spend any of their valuable time perusing the
popular press. This makes their collective preferences unimportant in
the eyes of today's advertising-driven media industry.
Also, the editors never seem to use smileys, but I don't understand why.
Smileys and frowneys add precision to written work.
