Nigeria, Ghana in World Cup Finals

.c The Associated Press

LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) -- Nigeria and Ghana claimed two of the last three places
in the Women's World Cup field Tuesday by reaching the final of the African
Women's Championship.

Nigeria routed Cameroon 6-0, while Ghana beat the Republic of Congo 4-1 in
extra time.

The results leave only one place open for next year's World Cup finals in the
United States, scheduled for June 19 to July 10. That will be decided in a
two-leg playoff between Argentina and Mexico.

It will be Nigeria's third straight appearance in the Women's World Cup
finals, having lost five of six games and tied the other in 1991 in China and
1995 in Norway.

Nigeria, which reached the African women's final by outscoring its opponents
26-0, will play Ghana on Saturday.
