Matters Of Race
What Does It Take To Heal?/ Tomorrow''s Americans
Airs on WPT
Next air date: September 24, 2003
Starts: 8:00 pm
Details: This program includes a contemporary look at two communities
often overlooked in the race dialogue: Native Americans and Native
Hawaiians. This hour is framed by challenges to "race-based
entitlements," which were pushed to the forefront of public debate in
Hawaii by recent court rulings and by a dispute in a small town adjacent
to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The final hour explores youth
culture and the values of the next generation by putting the camera into
the hands of three young producers.
Race: The Power of An Illusion
The Story We Tell
Airs on WPT
Next air date: September 24, 2003
Starts: 10:00 pm
Details: Ancient peoples stigmatized "others" on the grounds of
language, custom, class, and especially religion, but they did not sort
people into races. "The Story We Tell" traces the origins of the racial
idea to the European conquest of the Americas and to the American slave
system, the first ever where all the slaves shared a physical trait:
dark skin. more>

The House We Live In If race doesn't exist biologically, what is it? And
should it matter? The final episode focuses not on individual attitudes
and behavior, but on how institutions leave different groups differently
advantaged. The show makes visible the benefits that quietly and often
invisibly accrue to white people, not always because of merit or hard
work, but because U.S. laws, courts, customs and, perhaps most
pertinent, segregated neighborhoods, racialize opportunity.

Peter,
Good morning. Unquestionably, the most compelling and well produced
documentary of the decade. "Matters of Race" is a contemporary look at
different communities in America and how each culture and generation
internalizes and deals with complex issues. This excellent broadcast

For a society at odds with it's identity and soul this will be the best
two hours of television viewing one could hope for. The documentary
passionately reveals inner feelings and realities of Latinos, Blacks,
Asians and Whites. Please forward and/or share this message with others
in your network and encourage them to tune in tonight.
