Cameroon Beats Senegal in African Cup
By Associated Press

February 10, 2002, 2:35 PM EST

BAMAKO, Mali -- Cameroon won its fourth African Cup of Nations title by
beating Senegal 3-2 on penalty kicks after the teams played a scoreless 120
minutes Sunday.

Senegal missed its last three penalty kicks, with El-Hadji Diouf, Moustapha
Faye and Aliou Cisse all failing to score.

Patrick Suffo, Etame Mayer and Geremi Njitap made their kicks for Cameroon,
while Pierre Wome and Rigobert Song missed.

Senegal's successful kicks were by Ferdinand Coly and Khalilou Fadiga.

Ghana and Egypt are the only other four-time winners of the continent's
championship.

Cameroon, the reigning Olympic soccer champion, played without star striker
Patrick Mbomba, who injured his calf in a quarterfinal victory over Egypt.

Both Senegal and Cameroon have qualified for this summer's World Cup.

Two-time African Cup winner Nigeria beat Mali 1-0 in Saturday's third-place
match.
