On Thursday, February 7, 2002, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, the Arthur R. Ashe,
Jr. Foreign Policy Library's Writers' Corner series and Vertigo Books
present African Roots/American Cultures: Africa in the Creation of the
Americas  with Dr. Sheila S. Walker.   The event will take place at the
TransAfrica Forum Building, 1744 R Street, NW, Washington, D.C.

African Roots/American Cultures: Africa in the Creation of the Americas
highlights the presence, and contributions of African peoples in the
Americas. The event will also feature the documentary Scattered Africa: The
Faces and Voices of the African Diaspora.  Dr. Walker is an anthropologist
who has written extensively on the cultures of African people worldwide, and
is Annabel Irion Worsham Centennial Professor at the University of Texas.

The Writers' Corner provides a forum for prominent authors to debut their
most current works on issues pertaining to Africa and the Diaspora.

Admission is free, however, pre-registration is required.  African
Roots/American Cultures will be sold at the event.  Call 202/797-2301 for
