CALL FOR PAPERS/PANELISTS

The West African Research Center in Dakar, Senegal, is organizing an
international interdisciplinary symposium on fieldwork in Africa, from June
12-15, 2002.  Papers, panels, roundtables and workshops are invited on all
theoretical, scholarly, ethical and practical aspects of fieldwork in

The Program on International Cooperation in Africa (PICA) is accepting
papers for its May 10-11 conference at Northwestern
University.  The  conference will focus on youth and youth organizations,
under the title "Youth Policy and the Policies of Youth in Africa".  Paper
abstracts are due by March 1 and should be submitted to PICA Coordinator,
Program of African Studies, Northwestern University, 620 Library Place,
Evanston, Illinois 60208-4110.

The Berkley-Stanford Joint Center for African Studies is accepting papers
for its conference "Rethinking Global ization From An African Perspective",
to be held at the University of California, Berkeley on April 27,
2002.  Abstracts are due by Feb. 18th.  For more information contact Mary

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS

Foreign Area and Language Study (FLAS) applications. A reminder that all
application materials for both summer and academic year FLAS scholarships
are due February 11, 2002.

In memory of Scott Kloeck-Jenson, the Global Studies Program will award
5-10 pre-dissertation and 3 internship grants during the spring semester

STUDY ABROAD

The AFS-USA Intercultural Programs is expanding its Global Educators
Program to include Professors and other college-level educators.  It is
also seeking individuals who would be willing to host a mentor or visiting

The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is offering
faculty seminars in Ghana, Senegal, and South Africa in the summer of
