MEMBERSHIP AND OUTREACH SPECIALIST

Black Hawk Council is currently recruiting qualified candidates for the position of Membership and Outreach Specialist.  The Council serves over 11,000 girls in nine south central Wisconsin counties at five program levels serving ages 5 - 17, or kindergarten through 12th grade.  2,500 adult members (women and men) volunteer to serve as leaders, board members and advisors in child development, outdoor education, adult education and program support.
The council reaches beyond traditional troop structure to under-served girls.  There are troops for migrant girls and for homeless girls, for adolescents at risk with the law, and the federally funded Girl Neighborhood Power program which is especially directed at girls aged 9-14.  Non-traditional troops have special needs like paid leadership and transportation.
The Girl Scout movement gives girls from all segments of American life a chance to develop their potential, to make friends and to become a vital part of their community.  Based on ethical values, it opens up a world of opportunity for girls, working in partnership with adult volunteers.

This position is responsible for the continuity, quality and growth of Girl Scouting within assigned geographic areas of the council.  This position directs the development and delivery of membership services through the volunteer structure and supervises the staff responsible for outreach efforts.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Develop and implement plans to extend girl membership within the assigned geographic areas.
2.      Recruit and retain a diverse cadre of adult volunteers and provide them with support, training and recognition.
3.      Analyze community needs and resources.
4.      Direct, prioritize, plan , schedule assignments, and evaluate outreach staff.
5.      Assist in the recruitment, placement, training and support of volunteers. Assure the racial, religious, ethnic, social and economic diversity of the community is reflected in the membership and volunteer positions.

QUALIFICATIONS

1.      The ability to work with individuals from diverse racial, cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds in a professional manner is required.
2.      Must have knowledge of membership and program development. Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers. Such knowledge and ability would normally be gained following graduation from approved college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and one year of directly related experience; supervisory experience is desirable. Other combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered.
3.      Must possess excellent public relation skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.  The ability to prioritize and plan assignments is necessary. Must be able to manage multiple priorities. 
4.      Must be able to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
5.      Must be able to meet the transportation requirements of the position. Must be or become a registered member of Girl Scouts of Black Hawk Council, Inc.
