Subject: Study Circles on Race

Dear Community Member,

Your help is needed. Please take a moment of your time to read the
following information about Study Cicles on Race.

We are looking for people interested in participating in Study Circles on
Race. An application is attached, feel free to make copies. To make the
Study Circles on Race project a success, there is a need for more "people
of color" to be involved. If you know anyone that may be interested,
please have them call the Urban League of Greater Madison.

Madison's Study Circles on Race are expected to generate a level of
activity aimed at bridging racial gaps at the grassroots level that could
re-energize the Madison area community. Experience from other communities
shows that the increased understanding of community concerns and new
community contacts that people develop through Study Circles frequently
results in collaboration and action. Any citizen living or working in
Madison may apply to participate in one of the Study Circles on Race. The
City is especially interested in bringing together individuals of very
diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, socio-economic statuses,
occupations, ages, neighborhoods and both genders. There are plans for
youth and intergenerational circles.

The first five public Study Circles are expected to start the end of
September 2000. There will be ten two-hour sessions for each Study Circle,
to be completed by the middle of December. Another five circles will start
the beginning of February and complete by the middle of April.

It is expected that all participants who need transportation and /or child
care will be accommodated whenever possible. In addition, attempts will
be made to provide all reasonable accommodations that are requested.

If you know of any organization that would be interested in hosting a
Study Circle please give them this information.

For more information, contact Mona Winston, Coordinator, at the Urban
League of Greater Madison, 151 E. Gorham St., Madison, WI 53703, 0ffice:
608 251-8550, ext.26, fax: 608 251-0944 or e-mail: [log in to unmask]

Sincerely,

The Study Circles on Race Staff-
Steve Braunginn, Steve Levine, Mona Winston, and Betsy Abramson
