Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth (WCATY)

SENIOR SUMMER PROGRAM
University of Wisconsin-Madison
June 11 - 30, 2000

The WCATY Senior Program is an intensive residential and academic
experience offering qualified high school students an excellent preview of
college. Students live at UW-Madison for three weeks while they study one
course and earn three college credits. This summer, program participants
can choose from two courses: English 207- Introduction to Modern Literature
taught by Lisa Photos, English Department; and Engineering Professional
Development 160 with Alan Gomez, Engineering Physics Department. While the
program is intense, classes are small and students are provided with
excellent support from instructors, tutors, and residential assistants. It
is a great opportunity for students to make friendships with peers and
instructional staff.

ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM:
To apply for the 2000 Senior Program, students should have completed grades
11 or 12 when attending the summer session (mature students in 10th grade
will be considered after a special screening). Applicants must meet
minimum PSAT, SAT, ACT, or MTS (Midwest Talent Search) test scores, submit
two letters of recommendation and a student essay. Students must be
motivated and highly academically able.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 27, 2000

PROGRAM COST:
Tuition for the program is approximately $1,675 for WCATY members. This
fee includes everything except books; financial aid is available. The
tuition for non-WCATY members is $1,725. Employment during the program is
also available at WPS Insurance and UW-Madison DOIT (which students can
keep during the school year).

FOR MORE INFORMATION:

************************************************************************
Lack of knowledge leads to misguided and ineffective strategies. Lack of
effective strategies leads to ineffective plans. Ineffective plans
increase the likeliness of failure. Failure increases apathy and
diminishes individual commitment. Without commitment and action, our
meetings become pointless, our goals unattainable, and our greatest
advocates begin to disappear.
