Welcome to the Afest 2000 Festival Planning and Implementation Committee, a
semi-autonomous body of the African Association of Madison, Inc. This is a
wonderful opportunity for the Madison community to learn about new African
immigrant culture directly from the people who live here. It is also
important for African immigrants in the Madison community to participate.
Festival presenters will share skills and discuss their perspectives on the
role of tradition in community building.

The Festival will put us and our culture front and center, instilling pride
and stimulating efforts to develop local cultural-economic resources. It
will also provide a model for publicly unifying diverse ethnic and racial
groups. Publications, documentation, and products arising from the festival
result in educational materials for children in the Madison community and
beyond. Sales of crafts, books, and recordings at the Festival will
stimulate markets for African recordings, crafts and other products, leading
to direct economic benefit. This committee shall meet on a rotational basis
and on the second Saturday of every month, except otherwise.

By directly subscribing you to this list, it is assumed that you are either
a member of the Executive Committee or the Festival Planning and
Implementation Committee. You may however subscribe to this list if you
would like to serve in any of the following sub-committees:

Finance and Fundraising.
Promotion and Publicity
Activities and Programming
Monitoring and Evaluation
Vendors and Site Management
