I just read about an interesting study. Two groups of
men were tested for calories burned. The first group
had < 10% bodyfat and the second group had > 20%
bodyfat. Both groups of men were about the same size
(weight), so obviously the leaner group had more
muscle mass. Results: the leaner group burned 40% more
calories at rest than the fatter group, and 16% more
calories while exercising (treadmill walking) than the
fatter group. Quite a difference, eh?

I started wondering. If someone who was overfat stayed
at a maintenance caloric level (no weight gain/loss),
and took up heavy weight lifting, wouldn't that person
eventually "lose" weight (theoretically fat)? Does
anyone know of studies that have been performed in
this regard?
