Mr. Kervin Soko,
I don't understand why you are casting blame on me for what your best friend
Omari Jackson wrote about you. Many would believe that I did a good job by
writing a decent story about your upcoming graduation as well as activities
in the community.
Nothing in the news story I wrote about you and Washington Doe suggested any
ugly act to defame you.
I played my role as a community leader to inform the larger community
audience and beyond about your educational achievement.
Omari Jackson, who claimed to have known you for many years from Liberia,
responded to your achievement with his own opinion via the Liberian
journalists listserv, which I saw and later forwarded it to local African
community listserv, where the original posting was done.
All that I know about you were things that I wrote in the news story, which
many may view as appropriate and resounding.
Kervin, you may want to realize that it is a mis-statement for you to say
that "I am jealous of your academic achievement and, instead, I should
emulate your good example in the community."
One thing to understand is that there is a an immeasurable difference
between us ranging from physical attributes, academic discipline to
leadership and professional work experience.
According to your statement you met me in Madison 1998 for the first time. I
agree. You also said that you arrived in the U.S. in 1996. I also agree.
What you failed to realize is that I recognize and thank God for your
academic achievement and that is the reason why I wrote a nice story
regarding the upcoming graduation program. Why would I become so jealous of
you when infact, I am academically a step ahead of you, given the five years
and nine months I have stayed in Madison. It took me only four years (Sept
1999 to May 2003) to receive Bachelor's Degree with double major in
Communication Arts and Political Science and a Certificate in Criminal
Justice from one of the nation's top ten universities (UW-Madison).
The difference is that it took you nearly seven years (1996--2004) to get
only one bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa University. So then, the question
goes forth, where would the jealousy come from? In addition, there's a big
difference between us when it comes to age; you are way yonder older than
me. Another evidence to prove you wrong about your claim that I am jealous
of you because of your first bachelor's degree can be attributed to my
recent desire to increase my intelligence in the academic field of study.
For your information, I have been offered the Advanced Opportunity
Fellowship to enrolled this summer to begin my master of science program at
the School of Education Counseling Psychology Department at UW-Madison.
Therefore, the question rolls once again, where do I jealous you
academically? Who should follow who example?
If I had such a jealousy against you because of your first bachelor's
degree, then why did I write a good news story regarding your achievement to
the larger community via the listserv? I see your statement as being a bogus
one with no meat in it to convince anyone.
I also agree with you that you used to be an athletic coach. But, however,
our professional work experience we've developed over past years differ in
many ways. I formerly worked in Liberia as a broadcast journalist before
emigrating to Madison in July of 1998. Because of my courageous work in
Liberia with continuation in Madison, I have received top journalism awards
from Human Rights Watch in New York and Amnesty Int'l, as well as Fox and
Fox Law Offices in Madison for the Martin Luther King, Jr Scholarship Award,
which recognized my volunteer community service.
Do I really need to emulate any example from you? My answer is an emphatic
NO!
Please cast your blame and finger pointing at Omari Jackson, your best
friend from Liberia, who claims to know you well enough.
Alex
