The Johnny Winston, Jr. 2003 Streetball and Block Party will be held on Saturday August 30, 2003 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Penn Park (South Madison). "Streetball" is an Adult Men's Basketball tournament featuring some of the best basketball players in the City of Madison, Milwaukee, Beloit, Rockford and other cities. Players include several former U.W. basketball athletes. The event will also feature a high school basketball game and a game for players over age 35. A slam dunk competition will take place immediately after the championship game.

The "block party" activities for youth and families include: Music by Top Ten Entertainment's D.J. Ant and the New Hot 105.9 FM disc jockey Triple X; Hip Hop performances by Get Rich Records and other artists; Free Bingo sponsored by DeJope Bingo; Neighborhood Intervention Program's "Fastest Brother and Sister Relay Race" and City of Madison Fire Trucks. This event also includes information booths and vendors selling a variety of foods and other items.

This is a not-for-profit event. The Sable Flames, Inc. and Local 311 Charities are among many sponsors of this event. All proceeds are given directly to local charitable programs that benefit the community and support education. This year's recipients of proceeds will be the Southside Raiders youth football program, South Madison Panthers track team and the Urban League of Greater Madison.

In all, this event will provide a wonderful organized activity for everyone to enjoy this summer. If you have any questions, would like to volunteer to assist in this effort, or discuss any further details, please feel free to call (608) 347-9715 or by e-mail. I hope to see you there! Thank you.
