In my house we eat GF due to allergies but I joined this list when my
mother was diagnosed with CD a few years ago. By the time she was
diagnosed, she was extremely ill and a lot of damage had been done to
her body from mal-nutrition. The GF diet helped a lot, however she
suffered a lot of complications from other things as well as the damage
that had been done from the side effects of CD (severe edema caused
heart damage, malabsorption stopped her blood pressure meds from being
effective, etc.).

I have turned to the list several times when my mom was really ill and
in hospital and I received a lot of really good answers and support. I
ended up in contact with Joseph Murray and my Mom's doctor was able to
contact him for help (my mom lived in a small town with no specialists).

Thank you to everyone for all their great comments and support. My Mom
died at the end of November at the age of 66. Lots of times in the past
years I have seen people that I think have CD and haven't said anything
although I will from now on, because I believe if my Mom had been
diagnosed earlier she would have lived a lot longer.

I'm not sure what my agenda is in writing this note except to say thank
you as I will be unsubscribing soon.

Maureen
