I had a similar problem once with a canon. Seems the printer was using the
color cartridge to print B&W. I had to "tell" the printer to use the black
ink cartridge for B&W. Hope this helps.

we recently replaced an ailing HP520 with a 840 and notice a marked slowdown

spooling? RAW? etc? what about using the USB rather than the parallel
