        Almost all internal modems sold these days are winmodems, and they will not
function in a 486 as you have noticed. Internal hardware modems do exist,
try looking on the used market. I recommend getting an external one, you'll
pay a little more but the benefits can outweigh the extra costs sometimes,
they do for me. TTYL
