It has been a few months since I have sent along the
POSTING rules for PCBUILD and since we have today
updated the Welcome Statement, I thought everyone
subscribed should have a chance to read the new version.
Remember not to reply to ADMIN posts using PCBUILD.
The Moderators will not approve your message for posting.

3) PCBUILD is Moderated - what does that mean
4) Digest version of PCBUILD - one message a day
5) How to contribute - Posting Rules
6) Special Subscriber Status
===========================================================
1) WHAT TO EXPECT AS A SUBSCRIBER:
The PCBUILD mailing list is an interactive mailing list, in
that any subscriber may post a message to PCBUILD that will
then be sent out to all the members of PCBUILD. Only messages
concerning PC hardware will be received from PCBUILD.
You can expect to receive 10 to 75 email messages a day from
PCBUILD mailing list. It is often best to build a special
folder or mailbox in your email client, with a filter to transfer
mail from PCBUILD.
Emails from PCBUILD are reviewed by a Moderator, then approved
for posting, (if the message conforms to our Posting Rules). So,
every message posted to PCBUILD is either a question or an answer
concerning PC Hardware. No Jokes, recipes or snide remarks will
ever be allowed through the system. Anyone attempting to VIOLATE
the rules will be BANNED from PCBUILD permanently.
--------------------------------------------
2) HOW TO SIGNOFF OR LEAVE PCBUILD
There are two methods of unsubscribing or Signing Off of PCBUILD.
1) Send an email to: [log in to unmask]
Type this in the body: SIGNOFF PCBUILD
2) Visit our web site and use the web interface to SIGNOFF:
http://nospin.com/pc/pcbuild.html
---------------------------------------------
3) PCBUILD IS MODERATED - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
When a message is sent to PCBUILD mailing list, the message is routed
to a Moderator, a staff member of The NOSPIN Group. The Moderator
then reads the message, either approves it for posting or sends you
an email explaining how why the message cannot be approved. You also
will be given instructions on how to correct your message so that it
can be approved.
!!! DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE MODERATORS !!!
PCBUILD's Moderators are professionals in the PC industry and completely
understand what should or should not be posted to PCBUILD. The Moderators
do not have the TIME or ENERGY to have a long conversation with anyone
about their decisions. Arguing with a Moderator or constantly sending
messages to PCBUILD that will not be approved only annoys the Staff and
will be cause to have your subscription terminated.
The Moderators function is to keep PCBUILD useful, On Topic and free from
nonsense. The Moderators will at all times be polite and helpful,
encouraging you to do better when posting. The Moderators cannot
edit your message and post it for you, they can only review, then approve
or deny posting.
-----------------------------------------------
4) DIGEST VERSION - One Email a Day
Some people are stunned by the amount of Email generated by PCBUILD
and would prefer to read all the days messages in one Email. You
can set your subscription to DIGEST as follows:
Send an email to: [log in to unmask]
In the body of the email, type: SET PCBUILD DIGEST
If you wish to later return to receiving PCBUILD normally, as individual
messages, then set your subscription as follows:
Send an email to: [log in to unmask]
In the body of the email, type: SET PCBUILD NODIGEST
--------------------------------------------------
5) How to contribute - Posting Rules
These are the guidelines our moderators use when reviewing messages
for approval. These guidelines are subject to change at any time,
upon agreement of a majority of the Moderators.
The Big Four: these are grounds for rejection AND for recommending
subscription termination.
No Flaming (nasty remarks)
No Spamming (advertising)
No Crossposting (message to multiple mailing lists)
No File Attachments, that includes VCARDS
Simple rejections for the following:
1) No Full Name (first and last)
2) If the message is completely unreadable in plain text (but it may
include formatting).
3) Irrelevant or OFF TOPIC (i.e., Thank you's, Me Too, wrong list, etc.)
4) Not written in English
5) Encrypted (PGP in a signature is permissible)
6) Bad taste (swearing, crude language -- stuff you wouldn't want your
grandmother to read.) If it is really bad, then it qualifies for
subscription termination.
Everything else gets a warning. Unless, of course, there is some sort
of serious repeat offender, in which case the Moderators discuss it.
Remember that decisions about message approvals is left to the individual
Moderator and the Moderator has the last word. The List Owners will
always support the decisions of the Moderators. It is recommended when
contacting a Moderator about a message rejection or issue you use the
following guidelines:
1) Use friendly comments only
2) Be sober when writing the message
3) Make your case based on the quality of your post and not the sexual
orientation or heritage of the Moderator
4) Never ask a List Owner to overrule the Moderator, you may have your
subscription terminated.
5) We recommend you read the FULL RULES for posting.

6) SPECIAL SUBSCRIBER STATUS
There are four levels of subscriber status on PCBUILD.
1) Listowner: Bob Wright and Drew DUNN
2) EDITOR/Moderator: This is the senior staff and can be viewed
at: http://nospin.com/pc/staff.html
3) Senior Contributors: These people approve their own messages and
do not go through the Moderating process. They have demonstrated
a superior knowledge and always use PCBUILD correctly.
4) Subscriber: all other members who have joined PCBUILD
How can you become a Senior Contributor?
This status is given to people who post answers to PCBUILD regularly,
with solid advice that is easily understood. Senior Contributors also
have demonstrated a superior ability to use PCBUILD following the rules.
If you have been a regular user of PCBUILD for more than a year and you
believe you qualify, contact a Moderator, requesting that they nominate
you for Senior Contributor status. A nomination by a Moderator is required
to become a Senior Contributor, although the final decision is made by
all the staff members of The NOSPIN Group.
