Without getting into particulars of your systems or your
(mostly i/o bound) applications, I'd like to state that
I don't argue that there are no advantages to running a
dual system. There are numerous potential advantages.
And numerous potential costs.

I stand considerably corrected. I thought I had heard from a user
that AutoCAD _was_ multi-threaded. Evidently this is less
than 100% accurate.
From caddfla.com/Products/Autodesk/AutoCAD_2000/2000_FAQ_s/2000_faq_s.html:
"Is AutoCAD 2000 multi-threaded?"
"There is a minor amount of multiple threading in the graphics and
input pipelines but it is not significant enough to be noticeable
to the end-user. We expect to provide more multi-threaded capabilities
in future versions of AutoCAD. "
Perhaps it was the user's "rendering software" that was multi-
threaded.
