Gee...working on friend's and relative's machines gives you an idea
of the screwed up
machines that repair shops see every day. Things can go from bad to
worse in a split second
and a 30 minute repair becomes a 10 hour nightmare (and you sure can't
charge $500 for
labor on an eccentric machine). Sometimes a match and a can of kerosene
seems the
best solution. But I digress.
Compatibility mode will not be a workable solution. In your case I
would fdisk the
drive, format and reinstall Windows 95. Don't wrestle with a pig of a
machine.
You both get dirty and the pig likes the struggle. *;-)
