What a fantastically socialist thought all? Most people in desk jobs in the
military stay in a lot longer than people with the grunt, support jobs such
as welders, plumbers, engineering dept pukes, and other fun jobs that the
military is full of. (I speak of this from experience as I was in the
military for 5 years).
Again, I reference one of my favorite authors, Heinlein "Starship Troopers",
the book not the movie. In it there are folks with amputations and other
disabilities fighting for their right to be a citizen. The book is much
different than the movie and while you may or may not agree with everything,
it has a lot of "things that make you go ,hmm?", thought provoking stuff.
My only caveat would be lower cognitive functioning folks, do they really
understand the import of what they do? I know the military I was in, was
populated by many folks who were probably borderline mentally retarded.
Some could do well, many didn't. Thought provoking stuff for right before
the holidays.
