Hi, Thank you to all who replied to my question of what brand of corn
tortillas are gf and where can I get them.
I got about 20 replies and most of them told me about Mission brand corn
tortillas. Mission brand say gf on the package and I called my local
store and they carry them..........
Some of you asked for a summary so here it is........
Pat in NH, USA
*********************************
I just went to the regular tortilla section at the grocery store and
they have bunches of corn tortillas-all gf. They have several different
brands, one here in colorado is Mission.
************************************
I use Garden of Eatin' from the health food store. I called
them....just to be very clear, they don't test for gluten. However,
there is no hidden gluten in any of their products and they consider all
of them to be
gluten free except for the corn chips that are flavored. They are all
made on the same lines but they wash lines in between products.
this may not be within everyone's comfort zone but i've had no problems.
I'm not a sensitive celiac (ie don't have immediate gluten rxns) but, I
am very
*allergic* to wheat - break out in hives, itching, eczema from contact
or ingestion of wheat (as well as celiac) and have no allergic rxns from
their products.
**********************************
I am using La Banderita and I'm not sure, but I think they might be
contaminated. They aren't agreeing with me. The list says these are GF:
Mission, Ortega, Old El Paso (but must read the label on these as some
are not GF).
*****************************************
Mission brand states on the package, "gluten free" - they are made in CA
and TX. They also maintain separate facilities for the corn and flour
tortillas. Hope you can get them up north there! We had trouble
finding corn tortillas at all when in Orlando, Fla.
****************************************
Gebhardt, Nature's Hilights, Old El Paso, Ortega, Pancho Villa,
Rosarita, and Taco Bell are all GF. But check to make sure about Taco
Bell first.
******************************************
I have found Mission Corn Tortillas in most parts of the East. They are
kept in the dairy case in most stores---refrigerated. The company has
confirmed recently they are GF. Just be sure you purchase the CORN,
they also make a wheat tortilla.
**********************************
I always use Tyson,,, no problems to speak of with them. They are in
the refrigerated section here, near the chesse of our regular grocery
store.
*****************************************
Mission brand corn tortillas are great and are gluten free. They sell
them in all the major grocery stores in my area of North Jersey.
Bearitos Taco/Tostada Shells, Yellow Taco Shells, Blue Taco shells,
Yellow Tostada Shells are all gluten free.
******************************************************
All corn tortillas I've ever seen are 100% corn. All corn is GF.
**********************************************************
I found Mission brand soft corn tortillas at the Walmart Supercenter.
They are GF. They come in a pretty big package, so I split it up and
froze some of them. I just take a package out of the freezer when I run
out. When you want one, just dampen a paper towel, fold it in half, and
put the tortillas inside. Microwave for about 30 seconds. They make
great wraps for hot dogs, too.
*********************************************
Try Mission brand. I like the large white ones. In California they are
labeled to be free of gluten.
**********************************
www.glutino.com They were GREAT!
*******************************
I buy Gringo Pete corn Tortillas. We live in Western MA and get them at
Big Y.
**********************************
I found the BAJA brand in Shaws mkt in Mass. They are good if warmed in
the micro but I find they tend to break if folded or rolled cold.
***********************************
I prefer Dianes Thin White Corn tortillas. The seem a little more
flexible.
I often microwave them on a paper plate for 20 seconds to soften and
roll them up with lunchmeat and/or cheese and lettuce for a quick easy lunch.
They break if you don't soften them first.
*******************************
If you have a Trader Joes? They have the best GF corn tortillas.
************************************
Try Bearitos brand. They are GF and tatse pretty good also.. I get them
at my local grocery store and at most health food stores.
*************************************
Mission White Corn Tortillas can be purchased at Albertson's market in
California. The package states GF on the front/bottom of the label. I
use them daily in place of bread.
