computer freezing when telephone rings.

 I am set up with BT surftime. When a telephone caller dials in to my BT
line my computer freezes and I have to re-boot each time.I have checked out
the problem many times but it persists. Do you have a theory as to this
fault? I use a US Robotics 56k Sportster modem, external, working with
Windows 98 SE.
