  Actually, you can have two devices per channel.  Most current
motherboards offer two EIDE channels, for a total of four devices.
But you could add a sound card (say) with an EIDE channel, and so get
up to six devices.  [Since each channel needs its own IRQ, adding
channels may not be your first choice.  But it *is* an option.
