3 out of 4 of My friend's WD 7200rpm HD went bad (or making funny noise)
within one year while my 5400rpm Western Digital HD still runs fine after
over 1 year of service. With this limited data, I think 5400rpm Western
Digital is more reliable than 7200rpm ones. I had 2 Seagate refurbished
Baracuda (spelling?) SCSI drives and they all died right after 1 year
warranty expired. IBM 8GB (5400rpm) runs fine after 4 years. IBM 13GB
(7200rpm) runs fine after 3 years. Maxtor 40GB (5400rpm) runs fine after 2
years. Maxtor 27GB (7200rpm) is also fine after 2 years. A 5-year old
Quantum 4GB bigfoot still runs at my relative's home.
No Seagate for me, and the rest is more based on luck. IBM is definitely
reliable in my experience.
That's all the personal experience I have on HDs.
