Go out to the HP web site and download their USB uninstaller program.
You run this and it removes the registry entries for the HP deskjet
printers.

When I recxently had problems installing my HP USB scanner the locl tech
told me when installing USB hardware to always install the software first
then connect the hardware. It worked for me.
