We used to have that sort of problem when we stored our paper in a supposedly dry drawer until we noted that the problem would resolve on a freshly opened ream of paper. The placement of a dessicant canister in the drawer along with the paper solved the problem.

Hello,

HP laserjet 4L or 5L printers.  same problem (At the start of the printing
process several pages are advanced instead of a single sheet, causing a
paper jam)
